Balochistan is member of UNPO

The UNPO (Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation) is a democratic international organization which provides legitimate and established forum at international level. The UNPO is a membership organization and its members are indigenous peoples, occupied nations, minorities and independent states or territories who have joined together to protect their human and cultural rights, preserve their environments, and to find non-violent solutions to conflicts which affect them.

Even though UNPO members have different goals and aspirations, they share one condition – they are not represented in major international forum, such as the United Nations. The UNPO current members are more then 60 Unrepresented Nations and Peoples. As a result, their ability to participate in the international community and to voice their concerns in the global bodies to protect human rights, democracy, and their environment. One of the main activities of the UNPO is to propagate for oppressed nations national self-determination. The UNPO assists its members in these issues at various international levels.

Since, we Baloch as a nation are not represented in major international forum such as the United Nations. The BPP (Balochistan People’s Party) saw the need to bring the Baloch national question in the higher international stage.The party has decided to do so by obtaining the UNPO’s membership. After a period of six months of lobbying and communicating with UNPO members and other governing body including the leadership of UNPO. Finally on 26th of June 2005 the Balochisan membership was approved unanimously in the UNPO’s General Assembly.This event took place at the 7th UNPO General Assembly in the city of The Hague in The Netherlands in the great Hall of Justice where the International court is resided.

As we know Balochistan is divided in three parts and BPP struggles in the Western Balochistan for Baloch rights. BPP’s desire was to represent the Baloch nation in all three parts within UNPO, unfortunately due to legal issues the UNPO just accepted the membership of Western part of Balochistan, their argument was that BPP is representing Baloch nation in Western Balochistan in Iran.

The BPP would suggest the political parties in Eastern Balochistan to obtain the UNPO membership because this is the voice of Unrepresented Nations in international arena.
