TEHRAN - A bomb exploded in a mosque in the south-eastern Iranian city of Zahedan on Tuesday, in the second such attack on the place of worship in a month, the Fars news agency reported.
The news agency gave no immediate details of any casualties and said it had information on who might be behind the attack in the restive southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan on the Pakistani border.
The Al-Gadhir mosque was targeted in a previous attack on February 18 by a man who arrived on a motorcyle. In recent years, the province, which has a large ethnic Baluch minority, has been the scene of a deadly insurgency by Sunni Muslim rebels of the Jundullah (Soldiers of God) group which is strongly opposed to the Shiite government. The province also lies on a major narcotics-smuggling route from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
