Akhtar Mengal, said the Baloch people are struggling to save their culture and identity and that through a joint campaign they can defeat "usurpers".

QUETTA: The chief of his own faction of Balochistan National Party, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, has said the Baloch people are struggling to save their culture and identity and that through a joint campaign they can defeat "usurpers".

In a telephonic address from Dubai to a gathering here on Tuesday, Mr Mengal said that governments in Pakistan had never been serious in resolving the Balochistan issue. The event was held in the press club to mark the first death anniversary of Malik Abdul Ali Kakar.

Mr Mengal lauded the role of Ali Kakar in cementing relations between the Baloch and Pashtoon people. He called upon his party workers to follow the principles of the deceased leader.

He said the Baloch people would hold negotiations with the government only in the presence of international guarantors, adding that "we do not trust the rulers".

Arbab Zahir Kasi of ANP, Bismillah Khan Kakar of PPP, Habib Jalib Baloch, Sajid Tareen and Malik Wali Kakar, the son of Ali Kakar, also spoke on the occasion.
