Chabahar Port should be promoted in view of its unique geographical location in Oman Sea, said Commerce Minister Massoud Mirkazemi on Tuesday.
"Since the region is considered a free zone, it enjoys special advantages and priorities," he was quoted as saying by IRNA.
Mirkazemi visited Chabahar as the government's representative during the second round of provincial visits of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Cabinet.
The minister and his entourage from Commerce Ministry are in Chabahar to identify problems facing the region, which will be discussed in the upcoming Cabinet session in SistanÐBaluchestan province.
"Chabahar port city boasts of numerous potentials, particularly in the economic sector, commercial affairs and transit of cargos. It also benefits the Chabahar Free Trade/Industrial Zone," he said.
Mirkazemi noted that cargo transit from Chabahar Port is of high importance for addressing the needs of regional countries such as Afghanistan.
"Transit of cargos from Chabahar to Commonwealth of Independent States and Central Asian countries is important," he said.
