Bnp Protests Search Operation In Quetta

2010,04,22

QUIETTA - The leaders of Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) while strongly protesting over search operation in Sariab area of Quetta have demanded for its immediate end and release of all persons detained by law enforcement agencies.

They alleged that governments were involved in spoiling peace in the province by pitting different communities against each other. BNP Secretary General Haibib Jalib Baloch Advocate, General Secretary Balochistan Bar Association Ameenullah Kakar Advocate, Nazir Baloch, Jamila Baloch and Mir Ghulam Mengal expressed these views while addressing a rally organised by BNP-Mengal on Wednesday outside Quetta Press Club to protest against search operation in Baloch populated areas.
They alleged that paramilitary troops and personnel of Anti-Terrorist Force once again had launched a massive search operation in different localities of Sariab and they were violating Baloch traditions by entering into the houses and harassing women and children.
They said that the approval of 18th Amendment neither would ensure the rights of oppressed nations nor Balochs would get control over their coast and resources.
"There are check posts of security forces in every nook and corner of the province, " they alleged.
They demanded for immediate release of all persons who were arrested during search operation and halt of alleged harassment of Baloch people.
Similarly, dozens of activists of PML-N also staged a demonstration outside Quetta Press Club against search operation.
Meanwhile, spokesman of Baloch Bar Association said that on the call of Baloch Bar lawyers boycotted courts proceedings as a protest against search operation in different parts of Sariab and alleged torture of woman by security forces.
He said that lawyers boycotted courts in Quetta Mastung, Kalat, Soorab, Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur and other towns.
A spokesman for the National Party (NP) also strongly condemned the operation against the Baloch people, saying that the deployment of the FC was not meant to eliminate lawlessness but to eliminate the Baloch nation.
It may be mentioned here that Police and other law enforcement agencies had launched a massive crackdown in different parts of Sariab area in Quetta and arrested dozens of accused persons in connection with target killings and bomb blasts, while during search operation a woman was also died due to alleged torture of police.
