Party leaders condemn police brutality, vow to continue struggle for Baloch rights

QUETTA: Workers of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) on Sunday organised protests in various parts of Balochistan against the killing of a party activist on Saturday.

Nearly all the wings of the party protested in the demonstrations and condemned the killing of Naseer Lango who was shot dead by police, as he was protesting against the arrest of BNP-M workers. In Quetta, the BNP-M took out rallies and chanted slogans against the provincial government and police. The rally was addressed by BNP-M leader Mir Akhtar Hussain Lango, a former MPA, who condemned the killing of Lango by police. He said that the establishment was responsible for hurling hand grenades on BNP-M leaders in Khuzdar and other parts of Balochistan. The BNP-M leader said that the government was trying to protect the people who were nominated in the FIR of Lango's killing by the party.

In Khuzdar, party workers and supporters organised a rally at the Seerat Chowk to protest the killing of Lango and arrest of several BNP-M workers by police and the Frontier Corps (FC). Speakers of the rally blamed the security agencies for the killing of Baloch workers and said that they would not be scared by such cowardly tactics.

In Turbat, BNP-M workers held a protest outside the Press Club and blamed the government for failing to protect the life and property of the citizens. They alleged that the government was afraid of the struggle of the BNP-M and was purposely targeting the leadership of the party. The BNP-M workers said that the party had eroded the moral authority of the federal and provincial governments, which showed that the masses were with the party and its struggle for the rights of the Baloch people. They demanded the UN intervention in the matter and stop the killing of Baloch political workers. BNP-M leader Dr Abdul Ghafoor Baloch was the main speaker at the protest.

In Panjgur, there was a complete shutter-down strike in the city to condemn the killing of BNP-M worker by police. All business and commercial centres remained closed on the call of the BNP-M. Party leaders Kifayatullah Baloch and Nazir Baloch led the protests and condemned the law enforcement agencies for targeting the leadership of the party. They also condemned the grenade attacks at the residence of Arbab Nawaz Mengal and Attaullah Mohammadzai, two senior BNP leaders of Khuzdar.

In Dalbandin, the BNP workers and supporters took out a rally, which started from the District Secretariat. The rally was addressed by leaders such as Mir Mohammad Ghous, Sardar Mohammad Ashraf, Mir Abdul Rehman Notezai and others. They said that the party workers would not be cowed down by such brutal actions and the struggle of the party would continue at all costs.

In Harnai, BNP-M workers staged a protest in front of the Press Club.
