QUETTA: The Balochistan government has declared a state of emergency in the coastal areas including Gadani Dam, Gidani, Kund Malir, Sapat and Sonmiani due to possible looming "Phet" cyclone approaching to the coastal areas of Balochistan and Karachi.
Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani had issued directives to the Gwadar and Lasbela authorities to utilize all available resources to ensure the safety of the life and property of people in the coastal areas.
The spokesman of the chief minster Balochistan told APP that a monitoring cell at CM secretariat is in closed coordination with other monitoring cells established each in Gwader and Lasbela and civil administration round the clock, adding all pre-emptive measures have been finalized to tackle with the expected cyclone “Phet” in the coastal belt of the province.
He further said that leaves of the doctors and other concern officials in two affected districts have been cancelled and some government buildings including schools had been evacuated.
Section 144 has also been enforced and in the view of possible threat, under the supervision of DC Gwadar Pasand Khan Buledi and DC Lasbela Hafiz Majid steps in this regard are being placed he maintained, adding life Jackets, ration, medicine had been dispatched to the coastal areas of the province.
The helicopters of the navy are vigilant to keep eye on the developing situation of the cyclone. Ambulances and vehicles are also on standby. The Met office has said that in next 24 to 36 hours the cyclone could recurve towards the Pakistan coastline.
On the special directives of Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani, Mir Iqbal Ahmed Khosa, Commissioner Kalat division immediately left for Lasbela to devise an concerted plan for the evacuation of the people to the safer places if cyclone hits the coastal areas of Balochistan.
