The momentum continued with a conference, held in Rome, on the subject of democracy in Iran in the wake of the Green Revolution.

The recent months have been an interesting time for UNPO - the Spring closed with the European Parliament hosting the first ever Uyghur call for a dialogue with Beijing supported by leading parliamentarians and academic experts. The momentum continued with a conference, held in Rome, on the subject of democracy in Iran in the wake of the Green Revolution. Over the summer UNPO keenly followed the recent free and fair democratic elections held in Somaliand and has already begun engaging with new administration to ensure the success of Somaliland democracy does not go unnoticed.

Challenging New Threats to Human Rights
The Phnom Penh Post - Cambodia's newspaper of record - featured a recent appeal by UNPO on the arrest of Khmer Krom Buddhist monk Thach Sophon in Vietnam. UNPO is following this case and many others with consistent calls for the observance of basic human rights by countries such as Vietnam and Chile. Meanwhile the desperate situation in South Asia shows no sign of improvement and UNPO is working with our members in Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Sindh to draw attention to their precarious circumstances.

Having the Means to Bring Support and Justice
These activities encompass only a fraction of UNPO's work and have only been made possible through the support of donations, both large and small. Only through such support can UNPO continue this valuable work and provide a unique ‘community of support' to marginalised people all over the world.

As the year's activities demonstrate, UNPO's meagre resources have been put to full use - but there remains much still to do - and as the summer closes we must ask for continued assistance. As a UNPO supporter we urge you to support the organisation's work as fully as you can so that we can end the year as successfully as we has begun it.
