Spokesperson Of Balochistan People’s Party Meets With Eu Institutions In Brussels

During the intensive two-day programme, Mr Boladai met with key Members of Parliament (MEPs), such as Ms Cornelia Ernst (GUE/NGL) and Mr Tunne Kelam (EPP), as well as with the European External Action Service (EEAS) and took part in events at the European Parliament on the situation in Iran after the nuclear deal.

This week [24 January 2017 – 25 January 2017], UNPO organised a round of advocacy meetings with the EU institutions for Mr Nasser Boladai, Spokesperson of the Balochistan Peoples Party (BPP), UNPO President and a member of the International Committee of the Congress of Nationalities for a Federal Iran (CNFI).

During the meetings, Mr Boladai took the opportunity to raise awareness of the situation of minorities in Iran, focusing on the situation of the Baloch people in the South East region of the Islamic Republic. He articulated the need for federalism in Iran and raised concerns about the worrying and rampant human rights violations.

The meetings proved beneficial in renewing old ties with sympathetic MEPs with whom Mr Boladai had met in 2014, during a round of advocacy meetings with a delegation from CNFI. Furthermore, he was able to establish new contacts with MEPs willing to support the cause of human rights in Iran. The goal of this latest round of meetings was to build on the progress made in previous visits and to turn sympathy and awareness into more meaningful and concrete action from the European institutions. Most importantly, the meetings encouraged MEPs and the EEAS to keep human rights as a priority in their dialogues with Iran, especially after the conclusion of the nuclear deal in 2015
